5 Steps to Create a "Meeting Free" Day of the Week, Every Week

5️⃣ steps to (gently lol) create a “meeting-free" day of the week, every week, that’s respected by team members and managers:

1️⃣ Choose a day of the week and block it as "Busy" in your calendar starting this week.

Monday and Friday tend to be the easiest as you're learning how to communicate your boundaries with care.

⚡️ BOUNDARY ALERT: You do NOT need to inform anyone you have a meeting-free day in your week until it's solidified. Protect your energy and train yourself to say yes to yourself, first.

2️⃣ Look over the next few weeks in your calendar and ensure meetings/holds are booked now.

Either book them yourself or request they be booked, letting team members know you're working on following your schedule more closely and your avails in your calendar are up to date.

💡 Prompting your team members to look ahead and informing them that your cal is up to date communicates to them that you respect your calendar and you are intentional about your avails.

3️⃣ Honour what's already booked.

We'll focus on meetings to be booked now going forward to save you time, energy, and, inevitably, money (because our precious time does equal money).

4️⃣ Gently decline new requests on your #mfd reminding them that you're not available.

Inevitably, especially in the first little while as you're training people to respect your availability (boundaries), you will get booked when you've asked them not to book you. That's ok.

Gently remind them that you're not available per your calendar and thank them for finding a new time that respects your calendar.

5️⃣ Support & thank your team members.

Show up as a supportive team member by asking them if there's anything you can do to help them prepare for meetings or get a head start on anything for a meeting. This will demonstrate that it's not all about you.

Win-win!
