How to Prevent Excessive Client Revisions
Nov 09, 2021
🔥 tip: Put in a “2 rounds of review/revisions max” caveat to protect yourself and your team members.
Why?
Humans need to see something at least twice before feeling safe with a decision.
We also think that, of course, our job brings in our income, and our income is providing many of our basic needs. No wonder why client decisions feel like their world depends on it—because sometimes, for them, they actually (understandably) feel that way.
So, if a decision a client is about to make makes them nervous, there’s (always) a risk the revisions could start to spin.
But, if we tell (ie. educate, inform) the client that they (incl. their stakeholders) have 2 rounds of reviews/revisions before something is locked, they have the opportunity to look at something with the level of scrutiny required to make critical (under the surface: scary) decisions BEFORE the spinning starts to happen.
And, inevitably, this visibility will make them feel safe, creating trust in your relationship.
